group start day at the main event which housed the overflow from the preceding days.

Just shy of 2000 players (1,928 to be precise) day 1c of the main event is the largest field
so far. Andy Griggs, the Country star began proceedings with a world-debut performance

and Deal,ʼ this time the honour being bestowed upon the Tournament Directory Jack Effel.

The second of the main event groups at the WSOP kicked off on Day 4th July (incidentally
also the Day of American Independence). Proceedings were kicked off by the Country and
Western Singer Andy Griggs singing the National Anthem followed by Jerry Yang
announcing the immortal ʻShuffle Up and Dealʼ, a great honour to have been bestowed
upon him as reigning champion.

The 55 events that make up the World Series of Poker have all but drawn to a close. That
is of course all but the grand finale- The $10,000 no limit holdʼem event, more generally
known as the main event. This is generally the event that players want to win as it is
traditionally known as the World Championship event and has the largest field.

Event number 48 has been won by Brazilian player Alexandre Gomes. The event was the

Martin Klaser winner of WSOP Event 43

Martin Klaser has just been crowned the winner of the event number 43, the $1500 Pot-
Limit Omaha Hi/Low and received his very first World Series of Poker bracelet. He was by
no means the favourite to win as he faced stiff competition from the like of Erik Seidel and
was certainly not one of the chip leaders as the players entered the final stages, however
he managed to outlast the 719 other players to claim his prize.

tournament in poker throughout the entire world, the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E event
