The Ladies Event at the WSOP
(June 10)
One of the many nice things about poker is that it really is a level playing field when it
comes to the battle of the sexes. If anything, (and forgive my use of stereotypes here)
women are perhaps better equipped to deal with the emotional roller-coaster that is a
poker tournament, and indeed with far less ego and testosterone coursing through their
veins, keeping a cool temperament is perhaps less of a challenge. Nonetheless, every
year a ladies event is held at the World
Series of Poker.
This year is no exception and the event has already kicked off. After day 1 the 1000 strong
playing field was already whittled down to 61 players. The thing with the ladies event
however is that the tournament organizers are not actually allowed to keep out men from
the event and so every year a few do enter! This year, one of the chip leaders is in fact a
man called Hoa Nguyen. He is currently running in 7th place with just over 70,000 chips.
That would set a cat amongst the pigeons- a man winning the ladies event at the WSOP!
We will definitely be keeping a close watch on this event to see how it, (and Hoa Nguyen)
progresses.
