WSOP 2008 Gets Underway!

May 30th has been and gone, and that can only mean one thing! Thatʼs right, the World
Series of Poker has begun and Vegas is swarming with poker celebrities, pros and a
smattering of amateurs all with dreams of hitting the big time.
The massive 55-event spectacle has attracted almost as many thousand participants!
Over 54,000 players will take part this year and the season starter this year was one of the
World Champion events, the $10,000 buy-in Pot Limit Hold ʻem event which many of the
biggest names turned out for.
In previous years the event for casino employees traditionally kicked off proceedings, but
this year this will be held as a season finale instead. The well known and much loved
Doyle Brunson was this year granted the honour of the opening call of ʻShuffle up and
dealʼ which is the official start to proceedings.
The pot limit event lasts for 3 days but at the end of day 1 the field was already down to 70
players with the chip leader being Eli Elezra. With everything to play for all eyes will be on
Vegas for the next 6 weeks while the events are played out one by one.
