It may still only be early days, but the World
Series of Poker has got off to a flying start this year.
Event 1 was the 10,000 pot limit texas holdʼem event and the final table was comprised of
some of the biggest and most recognizable names in poker today. Andy Bloch headed into
the final table as chip leader and continued in the lead once only 4 remained. Kathy
Leibert who has made a name for herself as one of the youngest and most successful
female players eventually went out in 3rd place as she was rather short stacked. She left
the table to a standing ovation from the crowd in awe of the success the youngster has
seen so far during her relatively short poker career.
Heads up took place between Nenad Medic and Andy Bloch, with Medic holding more
than twice as many chips as his opponent. The heads up battle lasted an hour and
eventually saw Bloch take away a sizable birthday present of $448,048 with 2nd place,
and Nedad Medic take $794,112 and the coveted bracelet of course for his triumph.
Event 2 has also concluded and saw Grant Hinkle land the bracelet and 1st prize of over
$830,000. The field began with a record breaking 3,929 players and also took a much
longer amount of time than expected. Hinkle was delighted but exhausted after the
marathon session!
