Day 1D of WSOP Main event
July 8, 2008
Itʼs official, the registration for the WSOP is now officially closed. Day 1D was the final
group start day at the main event which housed the overflow from the preceding days.
2,461 players sat down at the green felt for this day which means the total number of
people playing in the main event this year is 6,844. This is not the record, but it is not far
off and is the second largest field in its history.
With such an enormous field, this can only mean one thing, and thatʼs prize fund is huge!
The winner will take home a staggering $9,119,517 and the top 666 players will also
receive a piece of the pie too.
Congressman Robert Wexler provided the famous ʻshuffle up and dealʼ after giving them a
slightly political speech about congressional efforts to revoke the UIGEA.
Phil Helmuth, Doyle Brunson, Carlos Mortensen, Chris Ferguson, Noel Furlong, Johnny Chan and Jerry Yang all began the main event on day 1D as did Phil Ivey, Annie Duke, Allen Cunningham, Hevad Khan and Jennifer Harman.
