H.O.R.S.E event ends after 5 days
July 1, 2008
The H.O.R.S.E event at the World Series has finally been drawn to a close after 5
incredibly grueling and exhausting days.
This event is the most expensive poker event in the entire world as the buy-in is $50,000.
Due to the high tournament fee and the nature of the event, in which Hold ʻem, Omaha,
Razz, Seven card stud and Seven card stud eight or better are played in succession and
in a continuous loop, it is considered by many to show the true world champion poker
player as you have to possess skill in so many types of game.
The delighted winner of this event was Scotty Nguyen, already with 4 WSOP gold
bracelets to his name who claimed the $1,989,120 prize. The winner of this event also is
given the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy which is also a great honour for any player.
The final table was packed with bracelet winners, player of the year candidates and the
hugest names in cash game poker, so it was a phenomenal achievement to outlast them
all. Runner up was 22 year old Connecticut player Michael DeMichele who went in to
heads up against Nguyen at a 4:1 disadvantage. It wasnʼt long before he was beaten but
fortunately second place warranted $1,243,200 so it was not all bad news!
