WSOP Main Event continues
July 14, 2008
The combined field of players at the WSOP main event was on day 3 down to a much
more manageable 1,307 players with payouts beginning at 666th place onwards. It was a
day that the cash was reached however after bubble boy Steve Chung went out in 667th
place.
Day 4 of the event had only 474 players remaining. Now deep into the money and with the
end in site, things were really hotting up. The short stacks were either going out or
doubling up and the competition was fierce. Jeremy Joseph was the chip leader by the
end of the day with over 2 million chips. The field was whittled down to 189 players as day
5 began. Joseph although ending the day in 9th place overall lost his place of chip leader
to Mark Ketteringham.
Phil Hellmuth is the last remaining WSOP champion in the event but because of a penalty
for berating Cristian Dragomir he is being forced to sit out of the first orbit of day 6. Day 5
players are guaranteed a $38,600 payout, and there will be 79 players going through. With
Ketteringham in such a strong position, no doubt he will be desperate to get out there and
play.
