Poker Movie in the Making
July 31, 2008
Despite several poker films being made over the years, there hasnʼt really been a good
film made since 1998 when Matt Damon starred in ʻRoundersʼ.
Nonetheless, there is to be another crack at it, and Gil Cates Jr. is working on a
documentary film about the 2005 World Series of Poker which was won by Joe Hachem,
to be titled "Pass the Sugar."
Cates previously directed a feature film about poker titled "Deal" which was released
earlier this year. It starred Burt Reynolds, Bret Harrison and Shannon Elizabeth but did not
do well at the box office to say the least!
“Pass the Sugar" is to be produced by Tony Hachem who is Joe Hachemʼs brother and
handles all his business affairs as well as being a player himself, and Catilin Murney. It is
apparently being financed by an Australia production company. It is expected that there
are a host of poker cameos made in the new documentary film and among these will be
the likes of Jen Tilly and Jose Canseco.
