Uniform set of poker rules
July 25, 2008
Two professional players Marcel Luske and Michelle Lau have worked together to
establish the Federation Internationale de Poker Association (FIDPA) and the International
Poker Rules (IP Rules). The aim of this is to strengthen and unite the poker industry
worldwide and establish a single set of rules for casinos and card rooms to follow which
will introduced more consistency, clarity and of course fairness into the game.
The new IP rules consist of 80 technical rules, policies and procedures covering
tournament play. Lau feels that this is exactly whatʼs needed as it is virtually impossible to
know what set of rules will apply at any given casino in any country.
The FIDPA will promote the new standardized rules by endorsing card rooms as well as
tournaments throughout the world that adopt the new rules. The Bellagio is the first to be
endorsed by the FIDPA which recently held the WPT main event under the new rules.
