World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open Day 1
September 16th, 2008
With the growing number of international poker tournaments and online events, what used
to be a relatively easy feat is no longer the case. Take the Borgata Open as an example.
Always considered a very popular WPT event with a guaranteed $5 million prize fund. In
order to achieve this, 521 players needed to register. Despite satellites running well into
the tournament and registration held open longer than usual, the tournament still only
managed to attract 516 players, leaving a $50,000 overlay.
This event clashed with the PokerStars $25,000 World Championship of Online Poker
heads-up no-limit holdʼem event which could have contributed to the fewer numbers. Victor
Ramdin and Scott “gunning4you” Seiver played in both events however, made possible
due to a slow moving blind structure and large starting stacks in the Borgata Open. Seiver
went out in 16th at the WCOOP event, beaten by Gavin Griffin who then also took out
Ramdin in 8th place. This meant a cash of $100,000.
