Just a few of the 495 players that gathered in Las Vegas for the Doyle Brunson 5 Diamond Poker Classic.
This tournament is the end of the poker year for most, so all the stars turned up even though the buy in was $15.000.
The weather in Las Vegas might be cold ( its even snowing as we speak and I am wearing a leather jacket to keep warm) but the poker action is certainly hotting up on day one,.
There are two “day ones” here and on the first day it was the “poker brat” himself, Phil Hellmuth who ran amok at the tables. Not only did he get good cards for ones, but he also played them right. I can honestly say that is the first time in a long time I saw him play good poker. Maybe the Christmas jitters bring out the best in him??
On the second day it was over and out for pro’s like Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Joe Hachem, Carlos Mortensen, David Sklansky and Kathy Liebert but others maintained their status of poker play by keeping in the tournament for another few hours.
