Happy new Poker Year

It’s the end of an amazing year. 2008 turned out to be the year of the poker professional. Not only did we get a professional winner of this years WSOP, but the pro players also took down most of the other well known events.
Peter Eastgate was of course the name on everyone’s lips this year. Not only was the final table an assortment of poker players from around the world that for the most part where well known, but also was this final table known for its long delay.
This delay showed that it is possible to conjure up a hype around poker and it was amazing to watch the final table “as live” instead of knowing who won.
The rating showed poker is not dead at all (as said by some well known faces in poker).
The arrival of some new poker tours and a renewed success for others will bring the poker cimmunity back to life in 2009. The WPT is cutting costs and events to get out of the red figures. The Russian Poker Tour looks to be a winner before it starts and despite a very unfortunate incident with the LAPT in Nuevo Vallarte the LAPT seems to be a success as well. As usual the EPT is thriving and proving to be a winner in Europe and beyond.
Who will be the big winner of 2009?? That is all up in the air of course and that makes poker so wonderful to play and watch, but expect good years by Ivan Demidov, Jon “Pearljammer” Turner and Tom “durrr” Dwan, but also expect a come back form the young girl, Annette (15) Obrestadt and of John “the Razor “Pham who will try to win Poker Player of the year again.
