WPT again lagging behind EPT
Mar 18, 2009
Again the WPT proved that for some reason the EPT has become its big brother instead of the other way around.
When the Bay 101 Shooting Stars tournament started there were only 139 players who signed up for the first day (day 1A) and that is a new all time low for the WPT.
25 players in this tournament have been assigned the "Shooting Star" sign which means that the player that knocks them out of the tournament receives $5.000. Among the Shooting Stars in this edition are: Annie Duke, Joe Sebok, Yerry Yang, Freddy Deeb, Jamie Gold, Phil Hellmuth, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Nenad Medic, David Pham, Erik Seidel and David Singer.
This is an excellent variation of the "bounty" tournaments you can find on a lot of sites and should attract more players then is happening now.
When the action finally started there were some remarkable hands and some incredible action. Most fun to watch for the spectators was a hand involving Joe Sebok where a suckout/re-suck/re-re-suck happened. On a board of J-7-7 $$$$ showed a full house Jacks over sevens with his pocket Jacks. his opponent was in front before the flop with QQ and when the turn was a Q it all seeemed to go according to the pre flop odds, but a remarkable river saw the last Jack in the deck nestle its way to the table and $$$ won a big pot. A few hands later though most of this gain was lost when on a Q-7-10-4 board a raise from his was called and when the 10 came on the river to pair the board he was pretty sure his 10-7 was good for the winning full house. His opponent had QQ however and had the better full house.
So far we have said goodbye to the following "Shooting Stars": Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel, Jerry Yang, John Juanda, Lee Watkinson and also David Singer had to leave already.
