WPT Invades Europe

After becoming more and more an event for mainly the American poker players, the WPT and his CEO Steve Lipscomb has decided to try and conquer Europe.
It was already a done deal that there would be a tournament held in Morocco in Marrakech, but now it has been announced that from the 6th till the 10th of May there will be an additional stop in Venice, Italy. The event will be a 4000 Euro buy-in event and the winner will not only walk away with the prize money, but also with a gold WPT bracelet as well as an entry worth $25.000 for the WPT Championship in 2010.
It looks like that with this announcement the WPT is heading in a new direction. After all we have all been aware of the problems the organization was in over the last 2 years or so with less TV coverage and very bad numbers that did not add up in total.
Maybe the WPT will be able to do the same as PartyPoker that managed to turn its figures for 2008 around compared to 2007. Even though the overall figures dropped slightly the profit rocketed by over 60% due to an amazing reduction in costs..
If the WPT is able to cut some costs and will appeal more to players from around the world instead of just the American players then there could very well be a new lease of life for the WPT. After all the WPT is solely responsible for giving us the WPT package coverage that includes the hole cam and the exact location of flops etc. so that people at home can follow the game easily.
