Poker Stars SCOOP Main Event Day One

Most of you poker players who are familiar with Poker Stars probably already know that the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has been underway since the beginning of April. The main event of the SCOOP started yesterday and will finish today as it’s a two day event. Each of the scheduled events have a low, medium and high stakes tournament and the high stakes buy-in for the main event was $10,300. It’s also a NL Holdem event and there won’t be any other poker games played throughout the event.
The tournament started yesterday with 502 players all buying in for $10,300 making the prize pool just over $5 million which was the guaranteed prize pool set in place by Poker Stars. This is by far the biggest event of the SCOOP and is the most anticipated event every year that the SCOOP has been played at Poker Stars.
Out of the 502 players who started the tournament only fourteen players remain in the event which is pretty impressive for only one day of poker. The action was rapid all day yesterday and noone seemed to worry much about having 10K on the line which made for an excellent tournament. Play will resume today Monday April 13th 2009 so if you want to catch a bit of the action make sure you check out the SCOOP tab when signing into the Poker Stars lobby.
The winner of the event will win just under $1 million unless there is a deal set-up with the players on the final table although it’s unlikely in such a big event. We’ve already seen some deals made on the final table this week in SCOOP events so it can’t be ruled out though. This will mark the end of the SCOOP, but I’m sure with the success it had this year you’ll be able to participate in it next year if you’d like the shot at becoming one of the top online poker players in the world.
