Ashton Griffin Captures the $25K Full Tilt Heads-Up World Championships

Yesterday we took a look at the Full Tilt $25K Heads-Up Championships Day One where 63 players battled in heads-up matches until the tournament was done to the final four players. After posting yesterday the four players went back to the poker tables on Full Tilt Poker to finish the massive buy-in event. To start each of the matches players were given 5K chips to start with which is a pretty deep stacked heads-up game.
In the first semi-final match that took place Ashton Griffin beat Blair Anderson in a timely fashion at the 40/80 blind level. Ashton had a huge chip lead going into the 40/80 blind level and although Blair managed to double up once at the level he ended up losing shortly after. Blair was all-in with pocket fives and Ashton had pocket queens which held up and propelled Griffin into the championship game. The second semi-final match was between David Benefield and Jim Kilarjian. David came out on top in this match at the 80/160 level when his pocket jacks held up against Jim’s lower pair.
With Ashton Griffin and David Benefield moving onto the championship match it was sure to be a good one. The match was quicker then I expected as it ended at the 25/50 level, but it was packed with lots of action. David held the lead early in the match, but lost an all-in hand shortly after before finally losing the match not long after the big hand.
Ashton Griffin was crowned the $25K Heads-Up Full Tilt Poker Champion and took home over $550K for his efforts which totals over half a million in profits after subtracting the buy-in from his earnings. This was by far one of the most expensive tournaments you’ll see played online and it’s always one of the best to report on.
