EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Results

The EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final has been running since April 28th 2009 and just finished up yesterday. After running through a playing field of 935 players the final 8 players sat down yesterday to see who would walk away with the 5th EPT Grand Final Championship. The tournament was the biggest poker tournament that had ever been played outside of Las Vegas with a total prize pool of $9.35 million.
Pieter de Korver who is 26 years old and lives in Holland won the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final and for his efforts he won the first place prize money of $2.3 million. Pieter has only been a pro for a couple years now, but has already shown he’s one of the best young poker players in the world. During the final table Pieter was at one point down to only a couple big blinds and he managed a remarkable comeback to take the fifth EPT Grand Final title.
Dag Martin Mikkelsen who is a Norwegian poker player looked like he would be the winner of the title during most of the final table, but it wasn’t meant to be. Dag Martin had over half of the chips on the table at one point during the final table and it didn’t look like anyone would beat him, but a few bad runs of cards left Dag Martin finishing in 4th place. Second place went to the only USA player on the final table Matthew Woodward who didn’t really stand a fighting chance against Pieter.
The final table lasted a total of just over an hour and the entire time was spent with Pieter winning pots from Matthew. Both the young professionals Pieter and Matthew have ensured that they will be around the world of poker for many years to come. There is no doubt that team Poker Stars is happy with the results as well since the winner is on the Netherlands Poker Stars Team. There was a total of 157 Poker Star players who competed in the event and many of them had strong finishes.
