Freddie Ellis Wins the 2009 WSOP Seven Card Stud World Championships

June 4, 2009

Yesterday we talked about the sixth event taking place at this year’s World Series of Poker in Las Vegas which was the $10K Seven Card Stud World Championships. They hit the tables after we talked about the tournament and late into last night the tournament finished with Freddie Ellis capturing the bracelet and prize money. The event was filled with many of the world’s best stud poker players and two of them made it heads-up which made the tournament even better to watch.

As you know Eric Drache was the chip leader to start the action yesterday and he ended up finishing in second place after losing in a long heads-up battle with Ellis. The two players are very well known around the Stud poker circuit so it’s no surprise that these two players made the final table. The two players are veterans of the game and showcased why they are two of the best Stud players in the world this past week.

Daniel Negreanu who was in contentions to start action yesterday made an early exit in tenth place before the final table which was a disappointment I’m sure for him. Mel Judah was another poker pro who almost made the final table as well as he finished in twelfth place in the tournament. All of the tournaments thus far at the WSOP this year have all had excellent endings and we’re just getting started. With over 80% of the events still to play we’ll be talking about poker for the next month and a half roughly.

The following players made the final table in the 2009 WSOP Seven Card Stud World Championships.

Freddie Ellis - $373,744
Eric Drache - $231,014
Villie Wahlbeck – $152,915
Max Pescatori - $107,959
Hasan Habib - $80,969
Ivan Schertzer - $64,297
Greg Mueller - $53,886
Tim Phan - $47,532
Jeff Lisandro - $36,267
