Leo Wolpert Wins Bracelet in $10K NL Holdem Heads-Up World Championships
June 16, 2009
One of the most anticipated events of the World Series of Poker every year is the heads-up world championships and often many of the best players in the world will play in this event. This year event #29 at the WSOP was the heads-up world championships and it just finished tonight. The action started four days ago with 256 players starting the event which meant that there would be plenty of heads-up action played.
The final heads-up match was between Leo Wolpert and John Duthie with both players playing their hearts out in the event. The finals went the distance with all three matches needing to be played, but in the end Leo Wolpert managed to walk away with the WSOP bracelet and the first place prize. Wolpert won the event with two pairs against Duthie who only had one pair.
There was some excellent poker talent playing in this event and the most notable finish was fifth place finisher Johnny Chan who did very well. There were several other players who had good finishes that you might recognize including Steve Zolotow, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Alec Torelli and several other players. This is an event that every poker pro wants to win each year and it ended up being a top class event over the past four days with some excellent heads-up matches being played.
The players who made it to the final eight of this event were as followed including the money that they took home for their finish in the $10K NL Holdem Heads-Up World Championships. As you can see from the list below there was a big jump in prize money between the top eight finishers.
