Matt Graham Shows Aggressions Wins WSOP Bracelets
June 23, 2009
The 40th event is now complete at the 2009 World Series of Poker and that means that were currently coming down the home stretch. The 40th event was another $10K buy-in event and this time it was for the Pot Limit Omaha World Championships. 295 players started the tournament on day one, but as you all know only one can walk away with the gold bracelet.
There was plenty of talent in the tournament this year and by day three there were many of the best players still in contentions. Most of them made an early exit on day three though, and that left some of the rather unknown players to battle it out on the felt. The winner of the event was Matt Graham who showed that aggression can win tournaments. Both Matt and second place finisher Vitaly Lunkin were the two most aggressive players on the final table and it worked out for them both.
The event wasn’t completed until around 4AM this morning so the players had a really late night finishing up the tournament. The heads-up battle went back and forth with a lot of intense moments. At one point it looked like Vitaly might win another bracelet in 2009 as Matt was crippled, but after several double-ups Matt had regained the lead.
There were several notable poker professionals who made it deep into the event, but only one managed to slip onto the final table. Some of those players consist of Barry Greenstein who finished in 9th place, Howard Lederer who finished in 12th place, David Williams who finished in 16th place and Erick Lindgren who finished in 27th place. The final table consisted of the following players from first place to ninth place.
Matt Graham - $679,379
Vitaly Lunkin - $419,832
Van Marcus - $278,409
Robin Keston - $196,994
Ferit Gabriellson - $148,439
Stefan Mattsson - $118,463
Josh Arieh - $99,856
Richard Austin - $88,681
Barry Greenstein - $82,746
