Peter Traply Wins First WSOP Bracelet for Hungary

Hungary isn’t known for producing good poker players yet, but that’s mainly because the game hasn’t been that popular over in the country for very long. I expect to see a lot of new and young talent coming out of Hungary soon though as lots of people in the country now play online poker. Over the history of the World Series of Poker there has never been a poker player from Hungary who has won a bracelet. This was until yesterday when Peter Traply broke that streak and won himself and his country their first WSOP bracelet.
The 41st event at the 2009 WSOP that Peter won last night was the $5K NL Holdem Shootout which was a very fun event to watch as the WSOP winds down. The final table started with only five players and it didn’t take very long for Peter to win and take down the bracelet. He basically dominated the play for most of the final table, until he ran into a little bit of trouble once he got heads-up.
Peter had his opponent crippled in the event and was one hand away from winning it all, but after losing several all-in hands he had somehow lost the chip lead. It didn’t look good for Peter at that time, but he ended up coming back to take the lead and then finally putting the final nail in the coffin by winning the event. There were several poker players who almost made the final table including Phil Ivey who finished in 8th place and David Pham in 7th place. The following five players made the final table in this shootout event.
