Phil Ivey Wins 7th WSOP Bracelet in 25th Event at 2009 WSOP
June 14, 2009
Phil Ivey is arguably the best poker player in the world and in the history of poker and he helped prove that point further last night by winning the twenty-fifth event at the 2009 World Series of Poker. The event was the $2.5K Omaha / Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better and there were 376 players who entered into the event including many of the world’s best Omaha/Stud players.
The final table was loaded up with talent for this event including the winner Phil Ivey, Carlos Mortensen, Jon Turner and Steve Wong. As Phil Ivey and Ming Lee battled heads-up in the event to see who would take home the bracelet they both won several hands. Once Ivey reached a 2:1 chip advantage over Ming he began taking a lot of small pots from Ming until finally getting him all-in and winning.
The win gives Phil Ivey his seventh World Series of Poker bracelet which moves him closer to the all-time leader Phil Hellmuth. Ivey has always been considered one of the very best poker players in the world and he constantly proves this by putting up impressive finishes in live tournaments and consistent online profits at Full Tilt Poker. I really hope that Ivey can catch up to Hellmuth for WSOP bracelets because I feel that Ivey is the better player and deserves too remembered as the best player in the world.
Phil Ivey walked away with the bracelet in this event, but there were still some players who played great poker and made the final table in this stacked event.
The players who outlasted most of the field and made the final table were as followed.
Phil Ivey - $220,538
Ming Lee - $136,292
Carlos Mortensen - $89,342
Dutch Boyd - $61,919
Jon Turner - $45,237
Eric Buchman - $34,747
Tom Koral - $27,993
Peter Gelencser - $23,600
Steve Wong - $16,517
