Travis Johnson Wins WSOP Bracelet in $1.5K NLHE Event

June 6, 2009

Event #7 at the 2009 World Series of Poker was the $1.5K No Limit Holdem Event which brought a total of 2791 players to the poker room for day one. The event lasted a total of three days and by the end of the third long day of poker the winner was awarded his bracelet. With such a large playing field in the event there was no telling who would win and chances were that it would be an unknown.

Travis Johnson used an aggressive strategy in order to capture the bracelet in the event and although this style typically doesn’t payoff in large tournaments it did this time. There weren’t really any big names in poker who took part in the event due to other bigger events taking place, but the field was one of the larger fields we’ve seen so far this year.

The final table features rather unknown poker players and it was a great battle that we got to witness at this event. Travis Johnson definitely didn’t win the bracelet easily and second place finisher Steve Karp made it really difficult as the two played heads-up for some time before Travis won.

The players who made the final table in the seventh event at this year’s WSOP were as followed.

Travis Johnson - $666,853
Steve Karp - $414,116
Michael Ciotola - $273,385
Mark Salinaro - $193,343
Craig McConville - $145,721
Brian McInnis - $116,234
Walter Wright - $97,985
James McClain - $87,013
Kam Low - $81,185

With such a large playing field in this event it made the prize pool really large for such a small buy-in event which was great for the players who made the final table. With only $1.5K invested for the buy-in into this event the players who made the final table made off with a nice payday.
