Ville Wahlbeck Becomes First Ever Finnish Poker Player to Win WSOP Bracelet

The twelfth event at the 2009 World Series of Poker was the $10K Mixed Poker Event which means a variety of poker games was played throughout the event. Finland born poker player Ville Wahlbeck managed to win the event this year which made history because it made Ville the first ever Finnish poker player to win a World Series of Poker bracelet.
Winning a WSOP bracelet has never been easy, but with the amount of players competing in every tournament these days it’s become even harder. Finland has never really had too many poker players in the past until the recent poker surge over the past five years or so which is why there has never been a Finnish poker player win a WSOP bracelet. Ville Wahlbeck has been having a great 2009 World Series of Poker as he managed to already finish in third place in the $10K Seven Card Stud Championship.
Ville had been considering quitting poker due to personal reasons, but after winning his first WSOP bracelet I’m sure he will have a change of mind. Unless you follow the EPT you may not have heard of Ville before, but he has been a very good poker player over the years on the EPT circuit. Ville took home just under $500K for winning this event and when he finished third earlier this week he won just over $150K which puts him at $650K in earnings this year already.

It was a great event if you didn’t manage to catch any of the action then you missed a great tournament. I was glad to see that Huck Seed finished in fifth place because I haven’t seen him in the top ten of many tournaments recently.
