648 Poker Players Survive Day 2A of the WSOP Main Event

After the four groups all played there day 1 action over the past week, day 2 was only split up into two groupings with the first being played today. There were 1476 poker players to start day 2A, but only 648 of them managed to make it through the day and onto day 3. There was a nice mixture of players being eliminated from the Main Event including some of the top name pros who had decent first days.
It goes to show you that you’re going to need more then one day of good poker if you want to stand a chance in the Main Event. Some of the players who hit the rail on Day 2A include Phil Laak, Barry Greenstein, Gavin Smith, Mike Matusow, Jennifer Tilly and Gus Hansen. Quite a few of the regular pro players who you always see on TV have now been knocked out of the tournament.
Several players were able to break the 300K chip mark today which was good to see. A few of the players who were able to increase their stack to over 300K chips include Kyle Wilson, Jerry Wong, Brandon Demes and Eric Cloutier who is currently the chip leader in this group with 383K. Some of the notable players who have big stacks in the tournament after day 2 include Greg Mueller, Andy Black and Mike Sexton.
Many of the stacks at the end of day 2A are on the short side of things and it shouldn’t be very hard to knock out quite a few players on day 3. The tournament is beginning to shape up nicely and soon we’ll be able to have a clearer impression on who looks like they might make the final table. We’ll be back tomorrow with how day 2B went as it should be incredible since there are a lot more players who will be playing.
