Carsten Joh Takes Down WSOP Bracelet in Event #51 - $1.5K NL Holdem

Carsten Joh is one of the growing numbers of German poker players that has been doing very well on the live tournament scene. Carsten who generally only competes on the European Poker Tour decided that he would make the trip over the pond this year for the 2009 World Series of Poker. It was a wise decision by the German poker player as he was able to win his first WSOP bracelet in the 51st event.
The 51st event at the 2009 WSOP was one of the numerous $1.5K NL Holdem tournaments which always draw in a large number of players. There were 2781 poker players that sat down to start the tournament which is a sizeable amount of players. A lot of the biggest names in poker were absent from this event as they are gearing up for the Main Event which starts in only a couple days.
When the final table started in this event Carsten wasn’t one of the chip leaders and in fact he was almost the short stack. He managed to stay out of the way of the big action for most of the final table and then when it became important Joh started putting the peddle to the metal. He won several key pots which helped him win the bracelet including one lucky hand where he got a runner-runner flush to win an all-in pot. If he lost the pot and didn’t hit the runner-runner he would have been eliminated from the event.
