Day 1B Continues With a Bang at the 2009 WSOP Main Event

As predicted by most people day 1b did have less players then the day 1a, but that was largely in part to the fact day 1b was played on July 4th. There were 873 players who hit the felt today with another great mix of famous players and amateur players. Just like in day 1a we saw a lot of betting taking place in day 1b. I think a lot of the players felt the pressure from the day 1a grouping and then didn’t want to fall too far behind.
Due to the pressure, I feel that it helped keep the day busy and action packed. There were some very surprising exits from the tournament and some other players are surprisingly just about knocked out of the event. Several of the players who were knocked out of the Main Event on day 1b consist of former World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker, Doyle Brunson, Jeremiah Smith, David Steicke, David Pham and Vicky Coren.
Some of the leading chip stacks after day 1b are Brandon Demes who is in first place in group B with 137K chips, Andrew Gaw, Max Casao, Jesse Rios and Pollock Benjamin. All of the above players have over 100K chips so as you can see it was just as busy as day 1a. There were 5 less 100K+ stacks in day 1b compared to day 1a, but there were hundreds of less players in the group.
One of the players you’ll want to keep an eye on throughout this year’s Main Event is Joe Sebok who has been becoming one of the world’s best poker players. Mike Caro and Mike Matusow are both are the short side of the stack in group b and I would be very surprised to see them make it through the group stage.
