Day 1D in the WSOP Main Event Has Huge Turnout

Day 1D is the final day 1 grouping that still had to play and there was a huge turnout of players. In total there were 2809 players who showed up at the Rio to play poker on Day 1D and rumour has it that many more players wanted to play, but couldn’t be accommodated. We now know that there are a total of 6494 players who entered the 2009 WSOP Main Event which means there is a prize pool of just over $61 million up for grabs this year, with first place winning roughly $8.5 million.
Only about 1900 players made it through group D on day 1 which means that there was almost 100 players knocked out after only five levels of play. Some of the players who didn’t have any luck on day one and were knocked out of the Main Event include David Williams, Jeff Madsen, Scott Fischman and Ivan Demidov. It’s a shame that Demidov is out already, but that means we might see another young poker player take his place this year.
Troy Weber managed to win the most chips on day 1D as he has a total of 353K chips which is more then anyone else in the tournament right now. Troy has almost double the amount of chips as second place in the tournament, but it’s still way too early to make any predictions. Often though, early chip leaders will fall to a bad run of hands at some point in the later stages of the event.
Some of the professional poker players who played on Day 1D and managed to grind their way up the leaderboard were David Benyamine, J.C. Tran, Phil Ivey and Chad Brown. I can’t wait until all of the groups are combined into one group, but we’re still a little ways from that right now.
