Phil Ivey Still Alive In WSOP Main Event after Day 5
July 13, 2009
On day 5 there were 407 players who started the day and all of them were playing in the Amazon poker room. The goal for the day was to play another three levels and knock the field down by about 50%. By the end of the three levels on day 5 there were 185 players left in the event which included some big names. The chip lead has once again changed in the Main Event and it seems like nobody will be able to hold the lead very long.
There are many big name pro poker players who are still in the playing field for the Main Event after the conclusion of day 5. Phil Ivey knocked out an opponent on the very last hand of play which helped him build his chip stack to roughly 1.4 million chips. Antonio Esfandiari is also still in contentions with roughly 1.2 million in chips after the action today. Joe Hachem is also still in the Main Event and going to be battling it out with the other 184 poker players on day 6.
There were over 200 players who were unable to make it through the day and those include Dan Harrington, David Levi and Lou Phillips. The current chip leader after the fifth day is Warren Zackey who has almost 5 million of the chips in play. Matt Affleck has continue to increase his chip stack in the Main Event, but both Ludovic Lacay and Bertrand Grospellier have been slipping a bit. Both were once the chip leader, but have since been sliding down the leaderboard. Both players are however still in contentions and can change things around on day 6.
Peter Eastgate and Joe Sebok are also still in the Main Event, but both players are currently sitting with under 1 million chips and have some work to do on day 6 if they want to move onto the next day.
