Brandon Demes Leads PokerStars.net APPT Macau Main Event after Day 1A

The PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event kicked off yesterday with day 1a. There were 119 players that started out the day and 64 players made it through the day which is over half. The tournament started out with a slow pace, but by the end of the day the action started to pick up considerably. The tournament has been split up into three day 1’s so there will still be two more groups to play day 1 before we move onto day 2. All of the players that made it through day 1a will make it through to day 2 so they will all have the next couple days off before they need to play again.
Brandon Demes was able to earn the chip lead on day 1a and was the only player to win over 100K in chips as he is sitting with 102K chips right now. Second place is David Steicke who has simply been tearing up Macau this year and I would definitely watch out for him making another final table. David has 82K chips right now and a sizeable chip lead over the majority of the players left in the tournament.
There were several players that weren’t having as good of days as Steicke and Demes were and they didn’t make it through the day. Jay Kinkade, Joel Dodds and Emad Tahtouh are all knocked out already. The biggest elimination of the day would have had to have been Johnny Chan. Chan started the day on the toughest table by far talent wise and he was unable to make it through the day.
We’re expecting that there will be more players showing up tomorrow and the next day to compete in the tournament and our guess would put the total amount of players at around 500. With larger playing fields expected for the next two days it will also mean that the current chip leaders are going to be overtaken so check back in tomorrow to find out which players were able to shine on day 1b.
