Gus Hansen on a Wicked Downswing

Every poker player will go through their ups and downs at the poker tables, but over the past several months Gus Hansen has been on one of the worst recorded downswings of all-time. All of the hands played at Full Tilt Poker are tracked and recorded so that they can keep leaderboards and such stats. From January 09 – March 09 Hansen was ranked as the #1 player at Full Tilt Poker and had posted over $3 million profit in those three months alone. When the month of April started things started going downhill for Gus Hansen and it has come to the point now where it’s become one of the worst downswings in online poker history.
Gus Hansen has lost just about $5 million since April 09 – August 09 and the bleeding hasn’t stopped yet. There is no sign that the downswing has ended and it should be interesting to see how Gus can deal with the problem. Not many poker players have blown through $5 million in under 5 months and it must be getting to him by now. The one thing that Gus Hansen has going for him is that he is one of the best poker players in the world and he has the potential to bounce back.
Gus thrives for action and is known as one of the most aggressive poker players in poker which could be the reason for his downswing. Basically everyone caught on to how Hansen played years ago and now that he is running card dead at Full Tilt Poker it’s starting to hurt. His strategy of playing aggressively won’t work very well when he is running card dead because he is one of the only players that most people will call down. I hope to see Gus bounce back soon and post some profits the remainder of the year so that he can start fresh in 2010.
