Carter Phillips Wins the EPT Barcelona Main Event Championship

As you know there were still eight players left in the European Poker Tour Barcelona Main Event and they battled it out yesterday. Carter Phillips who is an American went into the final table as the chip leader and he walked away with the first place prize money and trophy. Carter Phillips had a bit of a rough start to the day as he lost an early all-in against one of the short stacks, but he managed to keep his cool and prevail in the tournament.
The first player that was knocked out of the final table was Georgios Kapalas who was once the chip leader in the event as most of you know if you read the blog. Kapalas is a very young poker player with a definite future, but he will need to wait before he wins his title in Barcelona. Matt Lapossie finished in 7th place and although he didn’t finish in 1st place like he would have wanted too it was still an excellent effort.
Marc Goodwin finished in second place and was the player to battle it out with Carter Phillips for the title. Marc has been on top of the leaderboard most of the tournament, but he couldn’t pull out the victory. The chip stacks to start the heads-up battle were actually pretty close and only about 1 million chips separated the two players. At one point in the heads-up battle Marc took the chip lead, but it didn’t last very long. Marc ended up losing the tournament after a long 3+ hour battle when he got caught bluffing at a pot. He had a lot of chips so I’m not sure why he tried bluffing at the point he did, but he has nothing to regret and played a great tournament.
