EPT Barcelona Main Event Day 1A Kicked Off Today

Most of the playing field today consisted of amateur players although there were some pro poker players that made it out for the first grouping. Generally the pro players will wait until the last grouping before they play so we’re expecting more big name players to show up tomorrow. Freddy Deeb and Roland de Wolfe both started the day and are still in contentions and will be back for day 2. Freddy doesn’t have that big of a stack right now, but Roland is sitting with almost 80K chips.

The chip leader after day 1a is Diego Arias with almost 200K chips. There are about a dozen other players in the event with more then 100K chips after day 1a. Several of the players that were knocked out of the tournament today include Luca Pagano, Jesper Hougaard and Jason Mercier. Another player that was eliminated today was Sebastian Ruthenberg. Sebastian won the EPT Barcelona Main Event last year and he definitely won’t be able to repeat the feat this year.

There should be a lot of pros out on the poker felt tomorrow and we should see a lot more eliminations taking place. Today was a very laid back day and there weren’t many firework hands during play today. A lot of the eliminations today were short stacks making a move with their remaining chips and there weren’t many huge hands. There is still room for almost 500 players in the event so tomorrow should see a lot more then 200+ players.
