EPT Barcelona Main Event Day 2 Cut Short

The players that made it through the day 1 groupings all showed up today for day 2. There were a total of 240 players still left in the event and they were supposed to play six full levels. The players ended up cutting the day short due to a large amount of eliminations. The action stopped once there were only 72 players left in the field so that they all could come back for day 3 of the event.
Everyone left in the event is now in the money and there are some big names left in the hunt. The current chip leader going into day 3 is Matt Lapossie with 700K chips. The closest player to Matt is Carter Phillips who is sitting with 500K chips so Matt is sitting with a nice stack of chips right now and should be able to make a deep run in the tournament. The player that most people will be watching on day 3 though is third place Bertrand Grospellier who is just on an amazing run this year.
A few of the other players still in the hunt for the final table include Matt Woodward, Mike McDonald, Mel Judah and Roland de Wolfe. The field is still packed with talent and there is no saying yet who will make the final table. Some of the players that weren’t so lucky on day 2 include Freddy Deeb, Daniel Negreanu and Ivan Demidov. All three of these players cut their day short on day 2 and were eliminated from the field. Lex Veldhuis was also eliminated today right at the end of action and it was very surprising considering the fact he was a chip leader for most of the early stages of the tournament.
Tomorrow the players will play down until there are only 24 players left in the event and then on day 4 the remaining players will finish the tournament. It’s still anyone’s tournament, but Bertrand is definitely looking like he might make a strong push in Barcelona.
