Ian Munns Holds Hefty Chip Lead over Rest of Competition in WSOPE Main Event
September 27, 2009
The remaining 178 poker players were back at the poker tables for day 2 yesterday at the 2009 WSOPE Main Event. It was an eventful day that was filled with big time eliminations and it meant an early end to the tournament for many of the remaining players. While some of the pro poker players were able to continue building their stacks up on day 2 many of the pros fell behind the pack and were eventually eliminated.
Some of the players that were knocked out of the 2009 WSOPE Main Event include Phil Hellmuth, Erik Siedel, Howard Lederer, Barry Greenstein, Alex Kravchenko, Brandon Cantu and Dennis Phillips. Out of the above players it was disappointing to see Hellmuth knocked out so early as I really wouldn’t mind seeing him make a final table in the near future.
There are still some great players left in the event after day 2 and they will be left to battle it out on day 3. Men Nguyen and John Juanda are both still in the event, but they are both running on a short stack and have a lot of work in front of them on day 3 if they want to make a late surge up the leaderboard. Ian Munns is the current chip leader after day 2 with almost 530K chips. The closest player to Munns at the end of the day is Praz Bansi who is sitting with just under 300K chips.
Some of the other players that still have chips in front of them at the end of the day include Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, Doyle Brunson, Liz Lieu, Devilfish and Annette Obrestad. There are many other pro players still in the event as well, but I won’t bore you and list them all here. We will be back here tomorrow to let you know how day 3 of the WSOPE Main Event shaped up.
