JP Kelly Wins Event #1 at the 2009 WSOPE

During day 2 at the first event of the 2009 WSOPE there were quite a few eliminations that needed to be made in order for the event to be knocked down to nine players. Day 2 wasn’t a good day for the pro players and they all ended up getting knocked out of the event during some point in the day. Some of the pros did make the money in the event though and they include John Juanda and Chris Ferguson. Ferguson actually almost made the final table, but he was eliminated near the end of the day which was a shame too see although I’m sure he’ll be back in some of the other events later at the WSOPE.

After the second day of action the nine players that made it through the day include Fabien Dunlop, James Tomlin, William Martin, Richard Allen, Anthony Roux, Adnan Alshamah, JP Kelly, Thor Drexel and Neil Suarez. By the time the final table started Fabien had a huge chip lead over the rest of the players. Dunlop ended up going heads-up against JP Kelly and when it was all said and done JP Kelly walked away with the bracelet.

JP Kelly was short stacked to the final table, but he followed his game plan and ran into some very nice hands throughout the day. JP Kelly will walk away with not only the bracelet, but also with the first place prize money of almost 140K Euros. The second event has just started at the 2009 WSOPE and we will be back tomorrow to update you on how the action is going in that.
