Matt Woodward Leads EPT Barcelona Main Event Going Into Day 2

Today was day 1b of the EPT Barcelona Main Event and there were 270 players to start off the day. This number is a bit smaller then I was expecting, but it’s still an increase from the number of players that started day 1a which was a good sign. Another good sign about day 1b was that the field was stacked with pro poker players looking for their chance to capture the title.
The chip leader after day 1b is Matt Woodward with 200K in chips. Matt’s 200K in chips is a little bit ahead of the chip leader from yesterday. Lex Veldhuis had a great day as well today and is in the top 5 of the tournament going into day 2. He started the day off with a big hand and he continued to adding to his stack the entire day although I must say he did get lucky a couple times.
A few of the big name players that are still in the tournament and will be back tomorrow for day 2 include Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand Grospellier and Mike McDonald. There was even more big name players knocked out of the event though. Some of the players that were eliminated from the Main Event include Vanessa Rousso, Alex Kravchenko, Carlos Mortensen and Peter Eastgate. Since winning the Main Event I haven’t seen many good finishes from Eastgate and it would seem he has a lot of work to do if he wants to become a consistent poker player.
During the action today Lex Veldhuis issued a challenge to Daniel Negreanu. The reason Lex did so was because of a comment Daniel made today at the tables. Daniel didn’t accept the challenge yet and basically shrugged it off, but I would love to see it take place. The challenge would be to play some NL and Limit Holdem both online and live. Tune back in tomorrow to find out how the players do once the two groups are combined for day 2 action. It will be a big playing field for day 2 and I would expect a lot of eliminations taking place.
