WPT Merit Cyprus Classic Championship Day 2 – Day 4 Summary

Over the past few days the WPT event in Cyprus has been running along smoothly and I’d like to give you all an update on how the action has gone thus far. We already talked about both of the day 1 groupings and if you read that article then you’ll know that there is a lot of star power in this tournament. There were 125 players that started day 2, but by the end of the day over half of the field was eliminated.

The 55 players that made it through day 2 included a lot of star players. Some of the big names were knocked out of the tournament on day 2 including early chip leaders Phil Gordon and Ludovic Lacay. Day 3 started with 55 players and by the end of the day the event was down to only 21 players. Some of the eliminations that took place on day 3 in the tournament include Andy Bloch, Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson and Dan Harrington.

The chip leader after day 3 was Layne Flack with almost 1 million in chips. Some of the other notable players that made it through the day include Huck Seed and Kelly Kim. On day 4 of the event there were 21 players that needed to play down to 10 players so a little over half of the field needed to be eliminated. Kelly Kim wasn’t able to make it through the day and was eliminated right on the bubble. Huck Seed continued to build upon his stack and he is now sitting in fifth place with over 600K chips.

Tomorrow the tournament will be over and we will update you on how the action went on day 5 and 6. For some reason the tournament has been split up into really short days and I’m not too sure although it may be because they were expecting a bigger playing field.
