Aaron Gustavson Wins Title at 2009 EPT London Main Event

The 2009 EPT London Main Event was filled with some great poker players and it has definitely been a week to remember, especially for Aaron Gustavson. Gustavson, a young American, managed to win the event after a very short heads-up battle against Peter Eastgate. We reported yesterday that Aaron was the chip leader going into the day. He continued to pick his spots wisely at the final table and before you he knew it he was sitting in front of the trophy.

The first player that was eliminated from the action on the final table was Karim Bennani. Raymond Wu was the next to be knocked out of the event and he was a player that I thought would have a shot at winning the tournament yesterday. I thought Wu would have a better final table performance, but at least he made it that far in the first place. Once Wu was eliminated the event was down to only six players. The next four players to be knocked out of the tournament include Rui Milhomens, Dominic Cullen, Martin Gudvangen and Nikolai Senninger.

The heads-up battle was short and sweet and I’m sure nobody expected anything else. By the time it was heads-up Eastgate had a very tiny stack compared to Aaron. If Eastgate wanted a shot at winning the event he was going to need to hit some big hands early on heads-up. It turned out to be the complete opposite and he lost the initial heads-up hands which proved pivotal. Aaron will walk away with the trophy, but more importantly he also won 850,000 Euros which is well over $1 million USD.
