Barry Shulman Wins World Series of Poker Europe Main Event
October 3, 2009
The World Series of Poker Europe Main Event is now all finished up and Barry Shulman has walked away as the winner of the event. Barry Shulman played amazing poker over the past week and he definitely deserved the win in this event. Daniel Negreanu finished the tournament in second place and it was great to see the Canadian have a solid finish in the event. Negreanu has always been one of my favourite poker players and I always enjoy it when he is playing well on the circuit.
Jason Mercier is another player that played some great poker this week. Jason went into the final table as the chip leader on day five, but it wasn’t meant to be and he ended up getting eliminated from the event. For awhile a lot of spectators thought Jason might win the event as he continued building his chip stack during the early stages of day five. Things eventually fell apart though for Mercier and he finished the tournament in fourth place.
When the heads-up action started Negreanu actually had a lead on Shulman, but that changed and Shulman ended up winning the tournament after a long heads-up battle. Both Antoine Stout and Matt Hawrilenko both made the final table in the event and played some great poker. Antoine has been popping up all over the poker world lately and it should be interesting to see if he has continue success the remainder of this year.
I mentioned in the previous post that I wanted to see Brunson make the final table, but it wasn’t meant to be as he finished in 17th place. Liz Lieu finished in 22nd place which was a nice finish for her and should give her some confidence going into the remaining events of the year.
