Day One Round-Up at the 2009 European Poker Tour London Main Event

The 2009 European Poker Tour Main Event is well underway and both day 1a and day 1b are now completed. The playing field on both of the day 1 groupings were very strong and it proved to be a tough tournament to advance in. With the starting stack small in this event it meant that a lot of players made early all-in moves. Over half of the players that started the tournament on day 1 have been eliminated and won’t be back in the poker room for day 2.

There are plenty of excellent poker players in the event this year including recent tournament winner Barry Shulman. Shulman just finished winning the WSOPE Main Event and now he has a chance at winning this event as he is in good shape for day 2 action. Shulman is sitting in the top five right now on the leaderboard and has about 110K in chips. Some of the other players that have been doing great so far in the event include Jeff Lisandro, JC Tran, Chad Brown and Vitaly Lunkin. All of the above players are on the leaderboard right now and stand a good chance at making the final table in this Main Event.

Other players that are still in contentions for winning the event include John Juanda, Dennis Phillips, JP Kelly, Annette Obrestad and Ivan Demidov. Liz Lieu also managed to make it out to the event after her recent finish in the WSOPE Main Event and she will be joining us for day 2 of poker. There is a big list of other pros still in the event and we will update you tomorrow on how the action goes. I’m sure there will be plenty of eliminations tomorrow as the chip stacks are still relatively small. Make sure you tune in so you can find out who will have a shot at making the final table and who will be going home early.
