Asia Pacific Poker Tour Cebu Sets Attendance Record

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour is in Cebu right now and they just set a new record for being the biggest poker tournament ever held in the Philippines. The Philippines has never been a popular destination to go and play poker, but over the past year or two there has been more players coming to the region to play poker. The tournament didn’t have a large group of players when compared to a WSOP tournament or similar, but it was massive by Philippine standards.

The tournament needed to be split up into two day one groups due to the size of the tournament. The first group of players to play day one was quite small in comparison to the amount of players in the second group of players. I think a lot of the players got into the Philippines late or something because most players opted to play the second group on day one.

In all there were 319 players that entered the tournament and the prize pool is going to be well close to $600K. With a small buy-in and a very large prize pool I have a feeling that the winner of the event is going to be really happy. Most of the players in the event are locals or from Asia although there are some other international players in the event.

There aren’t that many pros in the tournament though due to the same buy-in I’m sure. Some pros did come out to support the event and poker in Philippines though, including David Steicke, Tony Hachem, Jonathon Lin and Bryan Huang. After the two day one groups finished playing there were 158 players left in the tournament which is just under half. The players are playing out day two right now and we’ll make sure we update you on how the APPT Cebu finishes.
