Joe Cada Wins 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event

By the time the first day was over on the final table in the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event it was pretty clear that Joe Cada was a heavy favourite to win the bracelet. Cada had a lot more chips then Darvin Moon going into the heads-up battle and Cada also has more experience playing on the big level. Over the course of the Main Event it seemed to me that Moon hit a lot of very lucky hands. Not to take away anything from him, but he definitely isn’t on the same level that Cada is on.

When the heads-up battle started on Monday night most people expected Cada to clean up the chips pretty quickly and walk away with the bracelet and money. It took a lot longer then anyone expected though. Darvin started off the battle by striking first and winning a couple decent sized pots. It looked like Moon was going to possibly give Cada a run for his money, but Cada quickly turned it around.

The momentum swung back into Cada’s direction after he won a few big pots off of Moon. Darvin had a crippled stack at this point and was unable to recover. After 364 hands of heads-up poker Cada won the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Bracelet along with the $8.5 million prize money. Here is a breakdown of how the final table ended up and how much each player walked away with. Everyone on the final table won over $1 million and I’m sure everyone is pleased except for possibly Ivey.
