Jan Skampa Is Crowned 2009 EPT Prague Main Event Champion

The 2009 EPT Prague Main Event had a total of 586 players in the event with many of them being from the Czech Republic. The event in Prague only turns out the best poker players from the Czech Republic and this year was no different then others. One of the players that might have even been picked early on to win the event was Jan Skampa. Eventually he would prove those few people right by being crowned the champion of the tournament.

With the win Jan has earned himself the top spot on the Czech Republic all-time live poker earnings list. Skampa recently played in the EPT Vilamoura Event where he finished fourth as you might remember. This week he wanted to do better then a fourth place finish and he did just that. By mixing up an aggressive/conservative style throughout the week Skampa managed to outplay everyone and is definitely one of the best young poker players in the world right now.

Skampa is only 23 years old right now and is still a student yet he is already the number one earning poker player in his home country. Two PokerStars sponsored players managed to make it to the final table, but there were both knocked out consecutively in 5th and 6th place. Pieter de Korver made a run for the final table in Prague this week, but was denied as he was knocked out in 29th place.
