Ladbrokes Is Moving Into the Italian Poker Market

Most of you should already know about what happened earlier in the year when the Italian government passed a law which prohibited online poker rooms from offering it to Italians. The only way that a poker room is allowed to offer poker in Italy is if they have an AAMS license. There aren’t currently that many poker rooms operating in Italy because of the license that needs to be obtained.

Ladbrokes has just announced this week that they have received a license from AAMS and they will be operating an online poker room as soon as January 2010. Initially Ladbrokes is only going to be allowed to offer poker tournaments and not cash games. It should also be noted that only Italians will be able to play in the poker room. The poker room is going to be located on the Ladbrokes.it website and you should be able to start playing shortly.

According to reports, poker rooms this year have made almost 300 million Euros in gross revenue in the Italian market. The entire online poker market in Italy is regulated and I think that the USA could learn a lot from what Italy has been doing. The Chief Executive Officer at Ladbrokes has made reports suggesting that Ladbrokes is going to be very busy in 2010.

Ladbrokes not only wants to start a poker room with tournaments, but they hope to offer cash games in the future. They also hope to obtain licenses so that they can start offering an online casino and online bingo platform through their main portal. If you’re in Italy and looking for a place to gamble online it looks like Ladbrokes will be a major player in the coming year. One thing that is great about this news is that Ladbrokes is already a known brand in Italy and it shouldn’t take long to fill up the poker room.
