Tony Dunst Leads the Way after Day 1A at the APPT Sydney Grand Final Main Event

The APPT Sydney Grand Final Main Event kicked off yesterday with some very unusual behaviour. On day 1a there was actually a small fight that took place in the poker room although it wasn’t between anyone in the Main Event which was a bit surprising too hear. The fight that broke out was between a player that was in the high roller event and a spectator that was just watching the action unfold.

Generally if you’re going to a poker event to observe the action only you don’t get involved in discussions with other players let alone a fight. The situation was handled immediately by the casino staff before it got out of hand, which was good too hear. There was actually a short break from play due to the incident that took place, but it wasn’t long before players were back in their seats and the cards were being dealt.

With that news out of the way let’s get on to what happened during day 1a of the Main Event in Sydney. There were a total of 81 players in the event to start the day, but I expect that there will be a bigger turnout for day 1b today. Out of the 81 players about 50 of them survived the first day and will make it onto the second day. Tony Dunst ended the day as the chip leader as he was the only player to eclipse the 100K chip mark.

s The tournament in Sydney is also filled with PokerStars Team Pros and PokerStars qualifiers. The leaderboard is currently scattered with PokerStars players right now and if this keeps up we might see a final table with over half the players representing PokerStars. There were some big names out on the felt today including Lee Nelson, Jason Gray, Julian Powell and Joel Dodds.
