2010 Aussie Millions Main Event Update

We told you that we we’re going to update you on the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event and with it coming to an end we figured we’d better get on it. This year at the Main Event there were a total of 746 players which easily made it the largest tournament at this year’s Aussie Millions, as expected. Day 1 needed to be broken down into three different groups because of the size of the tournament and each day was great.

On day 1a many of the biggest names in poker tried getting an early start to the event including Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey. Both of these players didn’t have promising days and Ivey was eliminated after his dinner break. Some of the players that made it out to the felt on day 1b include Grant Levy, Erik Siedel, Chris Ferguson and Dani Stern. On the final day 1 grouping there were plenty of big names as well including Tony G, Clonie Gowen and Chris Moorman.

By the time the players were brought together on day 2 there were only 294 players left out of the 746 that started the tournament. Day 4 just finished yesterday and it brought the playing field down to the final eight players. The players have yet to play out the final table, but we’ll make sure we let you know who ends up winning as soon as it’s over. The winner of the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event will win $2 million for their efforts so it’s going to be an awesome final table.

Sorel Mizzi has a huge chip lead going into the final table, but the other seven players have enough chips to make a push for the championship. The remaining players include Stephen Shelley, Tyron Krost, Frederik Jensen, Kosta Varoxis, Peter Jetten, Steven Friedlander and Annette Obrestad. Obrestad has been having a great start to the New Year and if she can win the Aussie Millions Main Event she’d already become a candidate for Player of the Year.
