Harrison Gimbel Takes Over Lead on Day 3 of the PCA Main Event

January 10, 2010

During day 3 of the 2010 PCA Main Event we were able to watch a few big surprises take place. The biggest of them all might have been when Justin Bonomo was eliminated from the tournament right near the end of the day. Bonomo had been playing stellar poker over the course of the event, but a slight lapse of judgement caused him to be knocked out right before the end of the third day, which will stop him from making a deep run.

Bonomo decided to try and make a move on an amateur player named Harrison Gimbel, but it ended up turning out terrible. The two players were heads-up in the hand and Bonomo did all the betting in the hand, but ended up getting called on the river when he went all-in. I’m not to sure what Bonomo was betting with, but he ended up losing to a flush. Gimbel took over the chip lead with this massive pot and he didn’t end up relinquishing it during the last hour of play on day 3.

As we mentioned in the last post the bubble would be hitting early today. The action was fairly slow until the bubble had been reached, but afterwards the action started to pick up nicely. By the end of the day there were only 62 players left in the event and I’m sure the less experienced players are starting to get the butterflies. The layout of the tournament has been decent when you consider the size of this year’s 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. There are still a couple days left to play in the hot sun and we’ll be sure to let you know exactly what happens.

If you’re curious about how the pro poker players fared on day 3 you might be a bit disappointed. Apart from Bonomo there were some other big eliminations today including Phil Ivey, Kathy Liebert, Huck Seed, Ivan Demidov, Carlos Mortensen and several others.
