Ryan D’Angelo Holds Onto Chip Lead during Day 5 of the PCA Main Event

We haven’t had any player yet hold the chip lead for consecutive days at the 2010 PCA Main Event until today. Ryan D’Angelo jumped into first place on day 4 with some huge hands and he managed to hold onto the lead thus far. His chip lead has become smaller since yesterday, but he is still in great shape to make it to at least the final three. Ryan is the only player with over 10 million in chips right now although second place Ty Reiman isn’t that far behind with roughly 9.3 million chips.

Reiman ended up all-in right near the end of day 5 and although he should have been knocked out of the tournament he managed to get lucky. I’ve always said that in order to win such a large multi-table tournament you not only need skill, but you also need some luck. Reiman was all-in with pocket queens and ended up getting called by pocket aces. Ty ended up hitting a queen and knocked out John Duthie who couldn’t improve his pocket aces. It’s a shame to see Duthie knocked out so deep in the event with such a cooler, but that’s poker folks.

The 24 players that made it to day 5 has been shrunk down to only 8 players now. The final 8 players will be coming back into the casino later today to see who can walk away with first place. At this point I really think that Barry Shulman and Ryan D’Angelo will make deep runs tomorrow and they might even end up going against each other in a heads-up battle to see who walks away with first. Harrison Gimbel, Ty Reiman, Tom Koral, Benjamin Zamani, Zachary Goldberg and Aage Ravn will all be trying to spoil a heads-up battle between Shulman and D’Angelo.
