European Poker Awards Presented Last Weekend in Paris

For those of you that read the blog and live in Europe you may have heard about the European Poker Awards already. The European Poker Awards have been presented to some of the best talent in the region for the past nine years now, but this year was full of amazing accomplishments for European players. The event took place over the weekend at the Aviation Club in Paris and there were plenty of poker players in attendance.

The biggest award of the night is for the Player of the Year honours which went to Vitaly Lunkin. Lunkin is Russian, but players from Russia can receive votes at this awards show even though it’s supposed to be for Europeans only. Lunkin definitely deserved the award this year as he was practically unstoppable at the World Series of Poker. Vitaly earned almost $3 million in tournament winnings alone last year and cashed in almost every event he played in.

Another one of the awards presented at the European Poker Awards is the Online Player of the Year. Patrik Antonius won the award this year as he had a pretty consistent and profitable year. Patrik has been off to a bad start so far this year, but I’m sure he’ll be able to rebound in the coming months. If he doesn’t start winning money again online then he definitely won’t be trying to recapture this award next year.

There were quite a few awards handed out over the course of the night including one for the Rookie of the Year which went to Antoine Saout who seems to keep popping up on leaderboards at poker events all over the world. Antoine had a great year and if he can keep it up he’ll have a great career in poker as well.
